The Conference "Future of Europe" in a Nutshell

In March 2018, KOF Swiss Economic Institute hosted the conference "Future of Europe" that gathered economists from all over the world to discuss pressing questions related to the future of European institutions. One major outcome of the conference will be an eBook to be published on VoxEU. Find here a short wrap-up of the event.

impressions

Vivid, interactive, highly interesting and at times hot-tempered it was, when the Crème de la Crème of economists interested in the future of Europe came together at one table in order to discuss and answer two main questions:

  • What are the lessons from the Bretton Woods institutional framework (and Globalization) for the Future of Europe (and for the euro area)?
  • Is an EMF (European Monetary Fund) the answer? Is it sufficient or are other institutions needed? How should these other institutions be designed?

Organizers

Nauro Campos (Brunel and KOF, ETH ZURICH) and Jan-Egbert Sturm (KOF, ETH ZURICH)

Outcome

An eBook with summaries of the conference presentations is scheduled and externe Seiteto be published on VoxEU. It should become a key reference for scholars and policy-makers engaged in the debate about the Future of Europe.
