Dr. Mathias Beck

Mathias has joined the KOF Swiss Economic Institute in 2017. Among other projects he currently leads the project about "Digital transformation: how it changes organizations, performance, and markets" as the Principal Investigator for the National Research Programme on Digital Transformation (NRP 77). He received a PhD in Management and Economics from University of Zurich, and a Master of Science from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. From his educational background, he studied Industrial Engineering and Management at the Karlsuhe Institute of Technology and at LUISS Guido Carli in Rome. Before joining the innovation economics research division at KOF Swiss Economic Institute, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Entrepreneurship (Prof. Ulrich Kaiser), Technology and Innovation Management (Prof. Anja Schulze) and Performance Management (Prof. Andrea Schenker-Wicki) at the University of Zurich. His research mainly focuses on empirical studies about firms' challenges in a knowledge-based economy and includes topics such as digitalization, Knowledge and technology transfer, R&D alliances, collaborative innovation, sustainability and R&D funding. In addition to academic research, he has been involved in scientific policy advice for the Swiss and Danish governments in various projects on matters of innovation policy, and to several companies on matters of innovation strategy.
